2013 Scion FR-S

With Toyota and Subaru teaming up to develop an all new front-engined, rear-wheel drive, 2-door coupe, Scion got handed the opportunity to have this car under their brand in the US instead of Toyota. They called it the FR-S, and it was a choice made to try and further the youthful appeal of Toyota’s Scion brand. A few years later though and this choice didn’t work, with Scion being discontinued and the FR-S transitioning over to becoming the 86 in the US like other markets.

At the heart of the FR-S is a Subaru sourced 2.0L flat 4 engine which is naturally aspirated and has some Toyota tech sprinkled on top. Peak power is rated at 197 hp and peak torque at 205 Nm, figures that whilst enough to move the relatively light weight FR-S around, were underwhelming to most enthusiasts. 0-62 mph is clocked up in 7.4 seconds or so, and the top speed is a claimed 140 mph.
