2021 Rolls-Royce Boat Tail

Rolls-Royce’s newly reformed coachbuilding department have turned out their first creation, the one-off commission known as the ‘Boat Tail’. It’s nice to see Rolls-Royce getting back to their roots in the exclusive world of coachbuilding, a world that requires a great amount of money for buyers to take part in.

Based on the Phantom Drophead, the Boat Tail is a completely bespoke commission with every single body panel made new exclusively for it. The design still keeps many of the same themes and underlying aesthetic of production Rollers whilst using new elements to create a different look. The Pantheon grille up front features a new horizontal piece of brightwork that spans the entire width of the car connecting the housings of the new slim headlights.

The rear end though is where the car gets it’s name. The Boat Tail, not surprisingly, looks like it has a boat for a backside, with a lovely tapering shape that is adorned with boat-like detailing like timber paneling on the deck. This back section also features two side opening luggage spaces encasing high-end picnic gear and space for the requisite champagne bottle.
