Description

Koenigsegg have combined petrol and electricity to create a 1,700 horsepower monster, packaged as a 4-seat mid-engined GT hypercar. Called the Gemera, Koenigsegg has truly out done themselves. 1,725 PS (1,270 kW) of combined power, and an astonishing 2,582 lb-ft (3,500 Nm) of combined torque. 0-62 mph done in under 2 seconds, and a top speed around the 250 mph mark. If you like big numbers, you will love this car.

To get all that power and torque, Koenigsegg have formulated a powertrain consisting of 3 electric motors and a revolutionary new internal combustion engine. That engine is a 3 cylinder twin turbo, with a dry-sump and 8,500 rpm redline that uses Koenigsegg’s Freevalve technology. Freevalve uses hydraulically-actuated infinitely variable valves that are not driven off a camshaft like conventional engines. This allows much greater control of the valves, which Koenigsegg is using to spin up the turbos faster and reduce lag. It also reduces the height of the engine improving packaging.

The other ingredient to the powertrain is the electric side. Two electric motors are positioned on each of the rear wheels, and the third motor sits within the crankcase of the engine. The 16.6 kWh battery is an 800 volt system that provides 50 kilometers of EV range and is charged via an external plug. The three electric motors combined generate 800 kW of power and are capable propelling the Gemera from 0-300 kph in pure EV mode with the aid of the engine.
