2021 Hyundai Pony Concept

Hyundai have revealed a restomod reimagining of the Pony, their first-ever production vehicle. Hyundai are hitting it out of the park in 2021 with the reveal of another interesting design that sets the brand apart.

The Pony concept looks much like the original Italdesign-penned Pony from 1974, and incorporates some styling aspects of the recent Ionig 5 and 45 Concept car. The taillights with their blocky appearance look retro and fantastic, and the side mirrors mounted on fenders are a nice nod to the past. The headlights follow the original Pony’s set of four circular lights, and add in daytime running lights around the outside housing of each light with LED strips for each indicator housed in the front bumper.

The powertrain is electric of course with Hyundai like many others concentrating on zero-emission vehicles as their future. The interior is where the Hyundai designers have really turned up the retro factor, with styling elements that feature strong 1970’s vibes whilst still managing to look fresh. The main feature though is the use of retro cathode ‘Nixie’ tubes in the instrument cluster which gives readouts for electric driving range and speed.
