2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

A hand-built supercharged V8 with 700+ horsepower makes the new Shelby GT500 the most powerful street-legal Ford ever produced. Stepping up as Ford’s answer to the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with it’s 650 hp, the 6th generation Ford Mustang GT500 will complete a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds, and storm all the way down the quarter mile drag in under 11 seconds.

The GT500 features performance technology handed down from the Ford GT and Mustang GT4 race car, including a Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch transmission from the GT that has line-lock and launch control capabilities whilst being able to shift gears in under 100 milliseconds. Aero enhancements have also been taken from Ford’s racing programs, with the GT500 deploying a design to increase downforce and optimise thermal management. To accommodate the six heat exchanges required to cool the engine, the front fascia uses openings that are doubled to that of the Mustang GT350.

The real star of the show is the 5.2L V8 which has a 2.65L roots-type supercharger fitted upside down and placed inside the V of the engine. This aids in keeping the intake air cooler and the centre of gravity lower. The engine itself is an aluminium-alloy block with larger forged connecting rods, a structural oil pan with a patented active baffle system that improves lubrication and high-flow cylinder heads.
