2020 Ford Focus ST

The new generation Ford Focus ST has arrived sitting lower and wider with new more powerful petrol and diesel engines. The petrol EcoBoost engine has been enlarged from 2.0L to 2.3L for the new ST, producing a maximum power output of 280 PS (206 kW) at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque figure of 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. The all new diesel option is the 2.0L EcoBlue engine that delivers 190 PS (140 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.

Ford has given a lot of attention to the responsiveness of the EcoBoost engine, utilising a new anti-lag system that builds from developments made with the Ford GT and F-150 Raptor. The system will keep the throttle open after the driver gets off the throttle, thereby ensuring the airflow doesn’t reverse keeping the turbochargers compressor wheel spinning in the correct direction. Once the throttle is re-applied, the turbo will be ready to respond much quicker. That turbo is a new twin-scroll unit with an electronically controlled wastegate, which when combined with the ST’s new low-pressure exhaust system help with the engines responsiveness too.

Two transmission options are available for the Focus ST with a row your own gears 6-speed manual option, and an all new 7-speed automatic. Power is delivered through a Borg Warner electronically controlled limited-slip differential, which uses hydraulic clutch plates to accurately distribute the torque between the front wheels. This marks the firts time a performance Ford has used an electronically controlled LSD.
