Description

Ferrari FF (Ferrari Four – four wheel drive & four seats). Launched as the first Ferrari four-wheel-drive car, it replaced the 612 Scaglietti as the four seater grand tourer in Ferrari model lineup.

The body was a shooting-brake design, having just the 2 doors but looking like a hatch/estate. The V12 engine came over from the 599 to empower the FF with plenty of grunt to hurl along 4 people at a decent rate.

The unique four-wheel-drive system was around 50% lighter than conventional set-ups. To get power to the front wheels was a second gearbox with only 2nd and 4th gears plus reverse. Power is sent to each front wheel independently via haldex-type clutches, without a differential. Once in 5th gear or higher the car was always in rear-wheel-drive only, making the Ferrari FF only use all four paws when using the first 4 gears.
