2021 Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 R

Donkervoort have revealed a track-only R version of their D8 GTO-JD70 rocket, ready to take on it’s rivals from Caterham and Arial. This is a track day special that Donkervoort says has been designed “to embarrass other sports cars and their owners and to make its own drivers feel like track superstars.” With the performance numbers quoted, it certainly seems like they might be able to back up those claims and deliver what is essentially a race car.

At the heart of the GTO-JD70 R is the Audi-sourced turbocharged 2.5L inline 5 engine found in the RS3 and TT producing 415 hp and 520 Nm. The key to the performance here is the extreme light weight package the engine has been fitted to. With a kerb weight of only 725 kg, the GTO-JD70 R can boast a very healthy power-to-weight ratio of 572 hp per ton, helping it achieve a 0-62 mph time of 2.7 seconds and a 0-124 mph of just 7.7 seconds.

With a focus on repeatable track performance, this newest version of the Donkervoort D8 is no longer road-legal, a fact that may be hard to swallow for some considering the significant purchase price involved.
