2020 Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70

Dutch supercar maker Donkervoort is celebrating the 70th birthday of it’s founder, Joop Donkervoort, by creating a limited edition version of the D8 GTO. That means more power, more torque and more downforce, meaning the D8 GTO-JD70 is capable of pulling 2Gs of lateral acceleration, a feat only matched by the likes of the McLaren Senna.

The turbocharged 2.5L inline 5 engine remains the same as found in the regular D8 GTO, but this time Donkervoort has managed to squeeze out 420 PS (310 kW) of power and 413 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque. Even better is that peak torque figure is now available between 1,750 and 6,350 rpm. 0-100 kph acceleration is up there with the big boys, clocking in at a very quick 2.7 seconds, helped by a set of sticky semi-slick tires.

The name JD70 is fairly self explanatory when you consider the JD stands for Joop Donkervoort, and the 70 applies to his age and also the number of units set to be made. Denis Donkervoort, said: “The JD70 is the distillation of everything we know and everything we’ve learned on the road and the racetrack, from track days and from customer talks and, of course, from Joop’s own ideas on what a supercar should be to its driver.”
