Description
The Smit Oletha is a beautifully crafted hard-top coupe version of the Z8 that BMW never made. Starting out with the chassis, suspension and steering from the E86 BMW Z4 coupe, Smit then went about transforming it into what looks like a Z8 in coupe form instead of being a roadster.
The engine chosen for powering the Smit Oletha starts out as a 4.0L V8 from the E92 M3 and undergoes some modifications to enlarge it to 4.4L with a new crankshaft, pistons, conrod, cams, valve springs and more. The end result is a peak power rating of 450 hp with 340 lb-ft of torque and a 0-60 mph time of 4 seconds.
BMW’s Z8 was always a good looking automobile, and converting it into coupe form has certainly kept those good looks intact. The attention to detail is impressive, and shows what BMW could have done if they wanted to create a proper 911 rival in the early 2000’s.
