2022 DeLorean Alpha 5 Concept

The DeLorean Motor Company has been rebirthed and it’s first creation is the Alpha 5 electric sports car. In what is essentially a concept at this point, DeLorean have released a series of renders showing off the Alpha 5 and it’s Gullwing doors. This is of course set to be the successor to the well-known DMC-12, the only car produced by the original incarnation of DeLorean in the 1980’s.

The aim of the Alpha 5 is to target a 300 mile range with the use of a 100kWh battery pack, achieve a top speed of 155 mph and 0-62 mph acceleration time of under 3 seconds. ItalDesign were brought in to consult with the design of the Alpha 5, with the result being a contemporary design that unfortunately does not follow the original DMC-12’s styling in a way that would be instantly recognisable. Whilst the gullwing doors are here, and they allow entry for the rear row of seats as well as the front, the iconic wedge shape is missing. A shame really, as a modern take on the DMC-12 could have been something special.
