Description
A hypercar that can match an F1 car around a race track? Adrian Newey’s crazy RB17 can. After first turning his and at non-racing car design with the impressive Aston Martin Valkyrie, Red Bull Racings chief designer has delivered an even more capable hypercar right before he leaves the company. Called the RB17, it comes with seating for two occupants, is purely a track car only and looks like a staggering technical achievement if it really can go toe to toe with a Formula 1 car in lap times.
The RB17 is equipped with a Cosworth-made V10 engine that revs up to 15,000 rpm and produces 1,000 hp on its own. The use of a single electric motor adds a further 184 hp into the mix to bring the total power output up to at least 1,184 hp. The total weight of the car is expected to be under 900 kilograms, an impressive feat for such a large machine that measures five metres long and two metres wide.
So, what about downforce? Well as expected, Adrian Newey hasn’t held back. At 150 mph the RB17 will be capable of generating 1,700 kg of downforce, wow. What we have here is essentially a car that has a little more power, a little more weight and probably more downforce than an F1 car. This is what can be done when the rule book is thrown out.
