2020 Aston Martin Rapide E

Aston Martin has teamed up with Williams Advanced Engineering to create the first ever production Aston to be fully electrified. Replacing the 5.9L V12 under the hood, are 2 rear mounted electric motors fed by an 800V system with a 65 kWh lithium ion battery pack. Aston have encased that battery in carbonfibre and kevlar making sure it’s not only strong but safe as well. The attention to the battery doesn’t stop there, with the ability to cool or heat the pack for optimum efficiency also included.

As for performance, the Rapide E has 610 PS (449 kW) of power and a huge 701 lb-ft (950 Nm) of torque on tap, all of which are available from zero rpm. The Rapide remains rear wheel drive with a limited-slip differential doing the hard work. This enables the Rapide E to accelerate from 0-62 mph in under 4 seconds and go from 50-70mph in a blink and you’ll miss it 1.5 seconds.

The official range is quoted at 200 miles, with fast charging available thanks to the 800V setup. This means when using a 100 kW outlet the Rapide E can charge at 310 miles of range per hour. This drops to 185 miles of range per hour when using a 50 kW outlet. Whilst the Rapide may be the elder statesman of the Aston Martin range, the marquee has decided to send it out with a bang. The Rapide will now be known as the first production Aston to move beyond the internal combustion engine.
