2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale

Alfa Romeo’s first compact SUV has finally arrived in an attempt to revive the flagging sales of the Italian brand. First previewed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Tonale concept was a sleek looking coupe-like SUV. Now the production version has arrived and the usual concessions are in place as the bean counters and production demands get in the way of a 1:1 carry-over. Gone is the 2-door coupe form with a couple of rear doors being added, and the sleek styling has also been toned down with a more subdued take that is just “meh”.

Three powertrain options will be available consisting of a 1.6L 128 hp diesel, a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder with either 128 hp or 157 hp and a flagship 1.3L plug-in hybrid setup with 273 hp. All will make use of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with no manual option available, and the PHEV version gets all-wheel drive in certain situations.
