2020 McLaren 620R

Move over 600LT, McLaren have revealed the 620R. A limited edition road legal car in the McLaren Sports Series range that utilises the aero package from the 570S GT4 racer. Aiming to take on the likes of the Porsche GT3 RS, the 620R is set go alongside the Senna as the companies most track focused cars.

The 3.8L V8 has been massaged to produce a little more power and torque with 620 PS (455 kW) and 457 lb-ft (620 Nm) respectively. This has been achieved by tweaking both the ECU and turbochargers. The most important changes come in the form of aerodynamic and chassis improvements. With the motorsport program improving the capabilities of the 570S GT4 over the course of racing seasons, the 620R gets to excel in the rewards. The front splitter is the largest McLaren could fit on the car whilst keeping it road legal, and the addition of dive planes on the front help generate a further 30 kilograms of downforce. All up 150 kilograms of additional downforce is generated by the 620R over the 600LT of speeds over 150 mph.

Chassis improvements come in the form of plenty of adjustable elements to help tune the car to the track. The standard tyres are Pirelli Trofeo R’s, set on staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. They feature a centre lock design for quick changes, and can easily be fitted with full slick tyres for track work.
